The Road to Preschool is an educational material developed on the initiative of Sefif – a national trade association for independent preschools. Sefif wants to contribute to increased integration and the employment of newly arrived people, while strengthening the preschool industry's employment opportunities. There are many newly arrived people and people born abroad who have experience working in childcare, education and similar activities who are unemployed, which is a huge waste of resources.
The industry faces a major challenge in finding and reaching out to individuals who could work in preschool. Knowledge of the Swedish language is a prerequisite for being able to work in preschool. At the same time, there are likely many newly arrived and foreign-born people who have experience of working in childcare, education and similar activities but who are currently unemployed in Sweden.
The Road to Preschool is a new and completely free digital educational platform developed in Arabic, Farsi, English and Swedish. The initiative is based on modern pedagogy and is intended to teach and interest newcomers in applying for work in preschool in a simple way. The training includes educational animated films and exercises about language, values and workplace culture.
Together with industry, experts and researchers, a platform adapted to the target group was developed. It can be used for both new arrivals for recruitment purposes and for employees for skills enhancement purposes.
